It
will be the policy of the Wise County Sheriff's Office not to condemn any citizen
contacts based solely on race and address any violation of this policy with
appropriate employees. DEFINITIONS BIAS
BASED PROFILING: Bias based profiling means law enforcement initiated action
based on an individual's race, ethnicity, or national origin rather than on the
individual's behavior or on information identifying the individual as having
engaged in criminal activity. RACE
OR ETHNICITY: Race or ethnicity means a particular descent, including
Caucasian, African, Hispanic, Asian, or Native American descent. PEDESTRIAN
STOP: Pedestrian Stop means an interaction between a peace officer and an
individual who is being detained for the purpose of a criminal investigation in
which the individual is not under arrest. ACTS
OF BIAS BASED PROFILING: Acts of bias based profiling include traffic and
pedestrian stops based on an individual's race or ethnicity rather than the
individual's actions or based upon reasonable suspicion. PROHIBITION
OF BIAS BASED PROFILING All
peace officers employed by the Wise County Sheriff's Office are strictly
prohibited from engaging in bias based profiling. PROCESS
