Hugh Malcolm Branch

Hugh Malcolm Branch was born in 1908 to former sheriff John and Lanora Branch.
He was married two times. His first wife, Marcille Bastain, died in 1958, from a brain
hemorrhage. They had two children, Delain and Hugh. In 1959, He married Evelyn Garrett.
They had no children.
Branch entered law enforcement as a deputy sheriff under Tom Faith. He served
under Sheriff Faith from 1932 through 1936. He left the sheriff's department to work his
farm. He returned to law enforcement on November 5, 1940, when he was elected to his first
term of office. He took office on January 1, 1941, and would remain in office until
January 7, 1947. That year he went to work for the Texas Liquor Control Board retiring in
1973. After retiring from the TLCB, he went to work for Sheriff Wylie Barnes of Denton
County.
When Branch retired for the second time, he returned to his farm in Wise County
to raise cattle.
