The Wise County S. O.  Communications Division handles all telephone, 9-1-1, and radio traffic for the county, with the exception of the cities of Bridgeport and Decatur.

On average, the communications division handles over 11,000 telephone calls and logs nearly 7,100 documented calls for service per month.

All fire, medical, and police calls are handled by the communication officers. Though during peak times as many as four communications officers may be staffing the office, the office is usually staffed with two persons, one person working primarily law enforcement (Sheriff's Deputies and area police departments) and one person working primarily emergency services (the 15 fire departments the Sheriff's Office is responsible for dispatching and emergency medical services).

In addition to the special radio channels, the communications office also monitors CB channel 9 and aircraft 123.1. A two-meter amateur radio is also installed for use in an emergency.

All phone and radio traffic is recorded on a special 36 channel digital recording system and stored for 3 year.
