Burn Ban Back On

Wise County Judge Bill McElhaney has issued a Burn Ban effective immediately for all of Wise County. It will be in effect for at least seven days. This means there can be NO outdoor burning.

Fire Marshal Paul Cunningham stated that Wise County citizens should be aware of this EXTREME FIRE DANGER. The State of Texas Emergency Operations Center described the situation as “can’t be any worse than this, with high winds, high temperatures and low humidity.” Weather forecasts for Friday for our area include temperatures of 90 degrees or above, with very low humidity, coupled with 30 to 40 mph winds. Maps provided by the National Weather Service show Wise County to be in the middle of this extreme danger area. The State of Texas Emergency Management team is moving firefighting helicopters, extra firefighting teams and equipment across Texas, preparing for the worst.

Should you or anyone you know have questions, please refer to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office web page at www.sheriff.co.wise.tx.us or call 940/627-597l. The website will be updated daily concerning the immediate dangers of burning.
