WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN TRAFFIC CHANGES ON US
380
New westbound lanes for US 380 from Decatur to Bridgeport will be opening
soon. Wednesday, April 2 is the target date to make the switch and put
all westbound traffic on the north side of the highway.
TxDOT wants all residents who live off US 380 between Bridgeport and
Decatur, or use it as part of their daily drive, to be alert for traffic on the
new roadway. Parents of inexperienced drivers are asked to remind them of
the change. Our best advice is to remember the first lesson you learned
about dealing with traffic, “Look both ways before you cross the street!”
Weather permitting, westbound traffic will be moved on the morning of
Wednesday, April 2. Drivers coming off intersecting roads on the north
side of US 380 are asked to observe new STOP signs to be in place soon.
After the traffic switch is made, workers will remove temporary striping and
traffic barrels from the westbound lanes at the Decatur end of the project.
It will then take approximately two weeks to restripe the eastbound lanes to
their final arrangement. Until that is done, traffic on the eastbound
lanes will remain one lane, until crews working from Decatur toward Bridgeport
put permanent striping in place. There will still be lane closures in both
directions on a daily basis as the contractor completes grading and other work
on the project.
If weather or other factors prevent the switch from being done on April 2
we will make every effort to make it on Thursday the 3rd or
Friday the 4th. Please remain alert as you drive through the
construction area, and watch for changes.
The eastbound lanes of US 380 in Bridgeport will remain one lane between
Lawdwin and Overland Drives for about 30 additional days while paving in the
center of the highway is completed. Traffic on and off of Business 380 (SL
373) will be limited while that crossover is completed in stages. The
crossover at Johns Drive will not be open during this time, and residents of the
Hartsell-Frost addition will have to use Overland and Business 380 crossovers in
the interim.
