WISE EYES 06-02-06   Possible Police Impersonator

On 06-02-06 at 12:31 am, the Wise County Sheriff's Office received a call from a woman who lives in the Wichita Falls, TX. area. She advised while traveling Northbound through Wise County on US 81/287 North of Decatur, she observed what appeared to be a Police vehicle sitting on the Northbound shoulder of the roadway. The woman advised the Police vehicle pulled in behind her and activated the emergency overhead lights. She stated they stopped just North of the Catfish O'Harlie Restaurant. The woman stated the Police vehicle pulled up behind her car and turned off all of the vehicle lights with the exception of the interior light.

The woman stated a white male, clean cut, with a mustache approached her vehicle. She stated the white male asked her to give him her drivers license, but did not ask for her insurance information. The white male asked if the woman knew how fast she was going? when she replied 62 mph to 65 mph. The white male stated he could take her to jail for that, then went back to his vehicle for a few minutes and then returned to the woman's car.

The woman stated the white male asked her to step out of her vehicle and the whit male placed her in handcuffs with her hands behind her back. The woman stated the white male began to touch her all over her body. The white male was checking all areas of her body even her shoes. The white male placed the woman in the back seat of his car and went to the woman's car looking through the car for some time. When the white male returned he got into the driver's seat of the vehicle. The woman stated she could not see what the man was doing but he told her he was going to let her go with a warning.

The woman stated the white male let her get out of the vehicle, removed the hand cuffs and she left going North on U.S. Hwy 81/287 towards Wichita Falls, TX. Once she arrived at her home she called the Wise County Sheriff's Office to make a report. Sgt Chad Hightower advised the area was checked for the vehicle description but did not locate the vehicle.

The woman stated the vehicle was a white car with 4 doors, no front license plate, emergency lights on top, a 9-1-1 decal on the rear fender, no cage, no camera system and what appeared to be a radio in the floor. The woman stated she noticed there was no badge or name plate on the white male's uniform.

Fortunately the woman was not hurt just really scared. The Wise County Sheriff's Office wants to advise if you have unmarked vehicle trying to stop you, call 9-1-1 and speak with a dispatcher to advise what is occurring and to inquire if an officer driving an unmarked vehicle has notified the Sheriff's office or Police Department that they are stopping a vehicle in your area. If you do not have a cell phone continue driving at a normal rate of speed until you get to an area that is well lit and there are other people in the area. A Certified Peace Officer will understand your concern for your safety and will deal with the situation appropriately.
