06-19-08 Wise County was hard hit by thunderstorms Thursday morning. A tank battery was struck by lightning and the tank caught fire. The tank was on FM 455 west of FM 51 and north of Decatur. Slidell/Greenwood fire departments responded and put out the fire. Just south of the county line, a bale of hay was struck by lightning. Fire departments were able to put that fire out, also. A home south of Decatur, on FM 730, was struck by lightning, but the only damage reported was the loss of a house phone. The southwest portion of the county seems to have been hit the hardest. The Boonesville Fire Department reported extremely high winds. Several trees and power lines were knocked down in the area near Salt Creek and State Highway 199. |
