 Brinks Security Company Scam Information

The Wise County Sheriff’s Office recently received information from a Runaway Bay resident concerning a scam involving Brinks Security Systems. The resident was contacted by Brinks who advised him that they had received reports of someone impersonating a Brinks Employee showing up at homes with Brinks Security Signs in the front yard. The impersonator would advise the homeowner that he was there to check out a problem with their alarm system. The resident stated the message from Brinks was advising customers this man was not a Brinks employee and not to let him in the home.

On 10-08-07 the Runaway Bay resident stated a black man came to his home  wearing a golf style shirt with a Brinks logo on it advising that  he was there to check out a problem with the alarm system. The resident’s son did not let the man in his house. The resident stated the black male was about 5’08”, a medium build with braded hair and was driving a white pick-up with a ladder rack on it. There was writing on the side of  vehicle but his son did not see the vehicle well enough to see what the company’s name. The resident contacted Brinks and confirmed that they would never send anyone out on a service call without contacting the homeowner first.

Sgt Debbie Denney called the Brinks Security Systems office in Irving and spoke with security spokesperson Shannon Stailey, who advised they had a couple of incidents occur but they were looking more like equipment scams.  The impersonators would lead the homeowner into thinking they are getting equipment up-grades but they were not actually installing any equipment. They put up an empty box and stated that their credit card machine was broken and  advised they were not allowed to take checks, so the unsuspecting victims would pay cash.

Ms Stailey stated they did not have a lot of incidents occur in Texas. There were some other incidents in other states but Brinks could only confirm the one incident where a Texas Brinks Customer was scammed, that was the above listed scam.  Ms Stailey stated the vehicle driven by that impersonator had Brinks on the side of the vehicle but the letters were red, instead of blue, which is the right color for Brinks Logo.
