Drug Arrest Linked to Property Stolen from Tractor Supply Co.

The Wise County Sheriff’s Office received a crime stoppers tip that stolen property and illegal narcotics were at a residence on Alexander Lane, Bridgeport. On December 31, 2007 a search warrant was requested and executed at the residence. The person at the house, Ronald G. Riggs, 63, of Bridgeport was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, over 28 grams but less than 400grams (hydrocodone pills)  and possession of a controlled substance  over1 gram for the bag contain a white crystal like substance (suspected methamphetamine).

Narcotics officers contacted Chief Rex Hoskins in regard to the property that was stolen from Tractor Supply Co. The officers found several thousand dollars worth of property stolen from them. The officers also found numerous pills and other narcotics related items at the house.

While officers searched the residence the phone continued to ring. The answering machine would pick up for the messages and indicated there had been 24 prior messages. Among these messages was a call advising Ronald Riggs to come shopping at Tractor Supply Co. and another voice ordering an “eight ball” of methamphetamine, (3.5 grams)

The narcotics officers requested a narcotics dog to do a check of the residence for further narcotics in the house. Chief Rick Roebuck of the Rhome Police Department brought his dog to assist with the search. Chief Roebuck took his dog inside the residence to check for narcotics then returned out side.

The narcotics officers located U. S. currency in a filing cabinet inside the office area of the residence. To confirm that there was a connection between the narcotics and the money, the officers placed the money inside a box and then put the box in the mailbox by the driveway outside the residence. Officers then had Chief Roebuck check the driveway area. Chief Roebuck’s dog alerted on the mailbox. The dog had also alerted on the filing cabinet in the office area. A gun was located at the residence. It was taken into evidence along with the money and narcotics located at the residence.
