Special Weapons and Tactics
The purpose of SWAT is to provide protection, support, security, firepower, and rescue to the Sheriff’s Office operations in high personal risk situations where specialized tactics are necessary.
SWAT team members are trained to perform high-risk operations that fall outside the responsibilities of the regular Sheriff’s Deputies. Once an officer has been selected, the potential member must participate and pass numerous specialized training courses.
SWAT team members' duties include: serving high risk arrest and search warrants; subduing barricaded suspects; performing hostage rescues; and engaging heavily-armed criminals.
SWAT officers are normally deployed to regular duties, but are prepared to respond to SWAT calls at a moments notice.
