George E. Young

George Young was born in Missouri on June 22, 1882.
At the age of sixteen, his family moved to Wise County and settled in the
Sycamore area. In 1908, he married Minnie Josephine McDaniel. They had
three children. The only surviving daughter is Dr. Maxine Young Warren of
Irving, Texas.
Before entering law enforcement, Young worked for the
civil service in tick eradication. He was also a rancher. He worked as a
deputy sheriff under W.M. Workman.
Young was elected on November 3, 1936. On November 8,
1938, Young was re-elected for a second term and served until December 31,
1940.
George Young aided in the pursuit of Bonnie Parker and
Clyde Barrow, and was present when they were killed.
After leaving office, he returned to his ranch just
north of Decatur, where he remained until his death in 1969.
